    Kassandra arched her eyebrows. “I reckon you’ve had more than enough of that kind of fun to last a lifetime. Have you forgotten what happened last time?”
    “No,” Ryan’s eyes dropped to the carbon fibre braces strapped to his legs, “I haven’t forgotten anything.”
    There was a moment of awkward silence before Kassandra placed a hand on his arm. “I didn’t mean—”
    “Don’t apologise,” he said, cutting her off. “You’re right. It’s just that some habits die hard.”

  1. Ooo, that took a sudden turn. I really enjoyed the sudden shift in emotion, how there wasn’t a lot of need for explanation, but enough offered to keep us wondering. Great eight!

    That said, I feel his pain. Not only do old habits die hard, but it’s never easy to admit you’ve reached your limits.
